About Washington Elementary
Dr. Ruth Ann Carr became Washington's second principal for the 1995/96 school year, and served in that capacity until October of 1996. At that time she became the Personnel Director for Norman Public Schools and eventually Assistant Superintendent. In October of 1996, Richard Dennis became Washington's principal, and was followed by Kathy Nauman in 2001. Dr. Linda Parsons became Washington's principal in August of 2003 and continues in that position today.
Located on the east side of Norman in a beautiful rural setting, Washington draws students from a large boundary area. The school has a very active PTA that supports the students and staff with gifts of their time, talents, and money. The staff prides itself on a philosophy of being child centered with high expectations for themselves and the students. Student learning focuses on the Oklahoma P.A.S.S. document and Norman's Articulated Curriculum, and is enriched with field trips, guest artists and speakers, student performances, service learning projects, and other enrichment activities.
Washington School, where
eagles take flight
faster than the speed of light.
We are the best we're
better than the rest.
'cause we're the Washington Eagles.
Put us to the test!

Washington Elementary School strives to make children confident and creative builders of their future. We work towards a differentiated curriculum that reaches across subjects and grade levels. Students are encouraged to meet all challenges with openness, enthusiasm, and a willingness to solve problems. Our school promotes a responsible, organized, cooperative, and kind environment where each student’s self-esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We aim for a safe and supportive atmosphere, with respect for individual differences and community values.
